In the second week of our Why Do We ____? series, Pastor Wade will look into the question of why we serve. Let us prepare our hearts by meditating on John 12:26, which says, "Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honour the one who serves me."

================This Week's Scripture:// Matthew 14:15-21 //As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”
Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
“We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.
“Bring them here to me,” he said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.

We will kicking off our 3-week sermon series called Why Do We ____? And starting us off this week is Pastor Wade, who looks into why—as a church—we gather physically in fellowship. We can prepare our hearts for this week's message by looking into 1 John 1:3-4, which says, "We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete."

We will be rounding out our sermon series, Summer Storytime, with Pastor Brenda preaching on that time when Jesus turned water into wine at the Wedding in Cana. Let us prepare our hearts by meditating on John 2:11, which goes, "Jesus did this as the first of his miraculous signs, in Cana of Galilee. In this way he revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him."

================This Week's Scripture:// John 2:6-11 //Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washing, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus told the servants, “Fill the water jars with water.” So they filled them up to the very top. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the head steward,” and they did. When the head steward tasted the water that had been turned to wine, not knowing where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), he called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the cheaper wine when the guests are drunk. You have kept the good wine until now!” Jesus did this as the first of his miraculous signs, in Cana of Galilee. In this way he revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.

This Sunday, Joe Kwan continues the Summer Storytime series and shares a message on freedom as well as how we are no longer slaves as Christ followers. While we prepare our hearts for Sunday, let us reflect on how the Israelites were grumbling in Numbers 14:3 with the words, "Why is the Lord bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword?"

================This Week's Scripture:// Numbers 13:30-14:4 //Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”
But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”
That night all the members of the community raised their voices and wept aloud. All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, “If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this wilderness! Why is the Lord bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?” And they said to each other, “We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt.”

This Sunday, Pastor Brenda kicks off our new summer series with a message on the outrageous mercy and amazing grace of God. This summer series will see messages from different guest speakers, each sharing about an aspect of our Christian walk. As we prepare our hearts for this Sunday, let us reflect on Revelations 21:1, which reads, "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea."

================This Week's Scripture:// Genesis 6:1-14 //Now it came about, when mankind began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw that the daughters of mankind were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. Then the LORD said, “My Spirit will not remain with man forever, because he is also flesh; nevertheless his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of mankind, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of mankind was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually. So the Lord was sorry that He had made mankind on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. Then the Lord said, “I will wipe out mankind whom I have created from the face of the land; mankind, and animals as well, and crawling things, and the birds of the sky. For I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favour in the eyes of the Lord.
These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. And Noah fathered three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for humanity had corrupted its way upon the earth.
Then God said to Noah, “The end of humanity has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of people; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with compartments, and cover it inside and out with pitch.

We will be blessed this Sunday by a message from Steve Hackman, who will speak on why we, as Christians, tend to forget that God is like Jesus and how that impacts our faith. As we look to Sunday, let us take a moment to reflect on Galatians 4:6, which reminds us that, "because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, 'Abba! Father!'"

================This Week's Scripture:// Galatians 4:4–7 //But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir through God.
